Valentine Party Decoration

Enjoy An Old Fashioned Party With These Unique Valentine Party Decoration Ideas

Searching for unique yet affordable Valentine party decoration ideas? What about kids' crafts for Valentine's Day?

If you have kids around, or can borrow a few, you can save big money by asking for their ideas on Valentine decorations. You can bet they'll be full of unique suggestions and tips on how to decorate your house for Valentine's.

True, the results might not look like Martha Stewart's, but your family room will look youthful and festive, and the kids will have tons of creative fun.

Vintage Valentine Party Decoration Ideas

Keep things simple and affordable by only decorating the room you'll be using for the party. With Valentine crafts for kids, sometimes less is more to avoid a cluttered appearance. Beautiful and festive decorations can be easily made using simple, everyday, low-cost materials.

Colorful Ribbons

Here's a real fun idea for a Valentine party decoration. Give each kid a package of ribbon then sit back and watch what they do with it. Use red, white, or pink ribbons. Pieces of ribbon can be tied with a bow around lamps and flower vases, and longer lengths of ribbon can be draped above windows and doorways. By running a pair of scissors along the ends of the ribbons, delicate curls can be created.

Balloons

Have you thought of getting balloons for Valentine's Day? Everybody loves balloons. Balloons in red, white, and pink give a very festive appearance to any St. Valentine's party. You could even get balloons shaped like a heart. Afterwards, you could play the old parlor game of seeing who could be the first person to break a balloon just by sitting on it.

Construction Paper

For a festive look, there is nothing better than a decorative heart for Valentine's Day. Small hearts cut from red and pink construction paper can make cabinets and doors look very festive. Kids can place the hearts anywhere they can find a good location, the more the better. Large hearts can be attractively displayed on the walls and pinned to curtains. The use of tape can mark the walls and furniture, so to avoid any damage, tape a loop of thread to the back of the hearts so they can be hung on drawer pulls, doorknobs, plants, and so on.

You can temporarily remove several pictures from the walls and let the kids hang the larger Valentine hearts from the picture hangers instead. Push pins can be safely inserted on the top corners of door trim, and a length of thread can be strung between them from which a row of small red hearts can be attached. A multitude of paper hearts will quickly make any room appear festive.

Also, a homemade paper chain in alternating colors of red and white or pink and white makes an extremely attractive Valentine party decoration. To make a paper chain, simply cut 8-inch wide pieces of construction paper into one-inch wide strips. Interlock the strips by either glueing or taping the ends and create a link chain as long as you need. A colorful paper chain hung along one wall of the family room or across the room from one corner to another will appear very festive and serve to remind everyone that it's Valentine's Day.

Popsicle® Sticks

Since the Popsicle® was first sold in 1928, those little wooden sticks have been a favored craft material with children and used to make a wide variety of items. Affordable, while easy to paint and glue together, they are perfect for kids' Valentine's Day crafts.

Popsicle® sticks can be glued together to make drink coasters. Hearts and arrows can be painted on them using watercolor paints, and traditional Valentine greetings can be added like, "Be My Valentine," "Won't You Be Mine?," "Love U," and so on. The coasters can be placed on coffee tables and accent tables as a holiday decoration.

Or, when hand painted pink or bright red and let dry, Popsicle® sticks can be glued on construction paper to make words for a valentine poster that says, "I Love You - Be My Valentine!" Sticks could also be glued together on their edges to make a small Valentine mailbox to hold Valentine cards. Paper or hand-drawn hearts or cupids could be used as decorations.

Cloth Furniture Covers

Here is a really neat Valentine craft idea. A unique Valentine party decoration can be made from a simple cloth furniture cover. It can transform your living room into a personalized Valentine's Day party room year after year. Here's how:

Take the measurements of the chair or couch and cut a piece of a white or pink colored cloth to fit it so it drapes almost to the floor. Now, spread the cloth out on a clean floor and let the kids start decorating it for the occasion.

They can cut out words and heart shapes from colored felt and glue them to the cloth. The names of each family member and pet can be featured along with the traditional Valentine greetings. Suitable washable fabric markers or paints could also be used to create designs and lettering. As the children grow older, this holiday furniture cover will be a treasured keepsake evoking fond memories each Valentine's Day it's used.

Valentine party decoration ideas book As was the case in Grandma's day, the entire family can have fun making Valentine decorations and displaying them around the house. And a homemade Valentine party decoration can be used for more than one season by storing it safely in a cardboard box or plastic container so it stays new looking for use the following year. It will create fond memories for all who see it.
