Sweet Butter Roll
by Angela Harris
(Chicago, Illinois)
I'm looking for a sweet butter roll recipe. It was made with flour, sugar, nutmeg, and milk baked in the oven. It tasted sweet, and it was delicious when hot or cold.
Butter Roll Recipe - Did you Find it? by: Anonymous
Tasted like a Bread Pudding--only not made from baked bread. I am looking also. A dear African-American woman made it till she died at 103. We miss her and her cooking.

Sweet Butter Roll Recipe by: Cory
Butter Roll Sauce:
Melt in a warm pan over warm heat...
2-1/2 cups milk 1-1/2 cups sugar Some cinnamon and nutmeg, however much you like 1/2 stick of butter
Butter Rolls:
1 to 2 packages of pie crust from the refrigerator section (the ones that are in the form of a roll, not the ones in the pan shape) Baking paper 1 stick butter Some cinnamon and nutmeg, however much you like 1 cup of sugar
Instructions:
Take the pie crust and place it on the baking paper flat and spread a stick of butter for each crust you use, then sprinkle sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon over the butter. Then roll the pie crust slowly until it is completely rolled, then pinch the ends.
Remove the roll from the baking paper and place in a glass baking dish. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake the roll for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown and risen.
Pour the sauce mixture over the roll and bake another 15 to 20 minutes. If sauce is completely absorbed, add a bit more milk (1/2 cup) and let sit in oven with the oven off for 5 more minutes.

Recipe Almost Like Granny's by: sissy
This recipe was close to my granny's, except she cut her pie rolls like cinnamon rolls and lay them in a glass dish and proceeded as the rest of this recipe is listed. Try it next time.

Butter Roll Dessert Recipe by: Anonymous
My mother made this dessert until she passed away in 1983. I watched and helped, but she did not have everything written down when she passed away.
I can remember the ingredients. It did not have nutmeg and did not have cinnamon. Lots of real butter, scalded milk, vanilla, sugar, pie crusts or biscuit crusts, rolled out and divided into four sections. A pat of butter, drop of vanilla, and spoon of sugar were centered into each section, folded over and placed top down in a making dish. Scalded milk with butter and vanilla is poured over the crust and baked in the over until brown and bubbling hot.
If someone has this recipe in full I would love to have it.
Thanks Joan Young

Butter Roll - Mmm! by: Anonymous
My great-grandmother used to make Butter Roll. Sounds just like the recipes mentioned above. Somehow the recipe never got passed down. I asked around for years and people thought I was crazy!! No one believed me that this was a real dessert!!
