What Are Nutrisystem Meals Really Like?
Sponsored Links
My Nutrisystem food reviews will assist you in knowing what the Nutrisystem meals are really like. Obviously, this will be a rather subjective review of Nutrisystem foods, since each of us has our food likes and dislikes, but I'll wade in anyway.
Please realize that I am not a professional food critic, I am simply a dieter like yourself offering my own opinions on the Nutrisystem menu.
Before we begin the Nutrisystem food reviews, though, let's examine how the various foods are packaged.
Nutrisystem Meals
Baked goods such as cookies, muffins, brownies, and pastries are thoughtfully packaged in plastic bags containing a small Ageless® Oxygen Absorber packet to prevent staleness.
Muffins and cookies and other baked goods arrive as moist and edible as any you would buy at a bakery.
Meals packaged in heatable containers are better sealed than most TV-dinners that I've seen. This seals in freshness.
As the packaging warns, though, hold the tray firmly on a flat surface when peeling of the plastic film, as it takes a strong tug, and you don't want to risk spilling a single ounce of your delicious hot meal.
Some Nutrisystem foods come in either TV-dinner-style trays or small plastic bowels for heating in the microwave. Others are packaged in plastic coated cardboard tub-like containers that require boiling water to be added, and the contents stirred. Salad items are packaged in squeezable foil-lined pouches that remind me of astronaut foods.
Nutrisystem snacks come packaged in small plastic bags similar to the way potato chips are sold. It's a really tough plastic, though, and it needs a firm pull to open or even better, a quick snip with scissors. Nutrisystem chocolate bars are packaged similar to regular chocolate bars.
As a big plus, all Nutrisystem menu meals that need warming up can be prepared either in the microwave or on the stove top. Having a microwave oven is not mandatory.
Finally, if you cannot eat the entire meal, package instructions warn you to refrigerate the amount remaining. However, these portions are not huge folks, and I doubt anyone would need to save them for eating later.
Now to the Nutrisystem food reviews. Let's find out what these diet meals actually taste like.
Nutrisystem Food Reviews Of Breakfast FoodsApple Strudel Scone: A somewhat densely textured pastry, but scone-like and delicious with a subtle apple jelly-like filling. It makes a satisfying breakfast treat that's perfect to take along if you're going out for breakfast with friends. Nutrisystem Food Reviews Favorite!
NutriFrosted Crunch Cereal: A good frosted cereal substitute that's not over sweet and has just the right amount of crunch to satisfy. A combination of flakes and Rice Krispies®-like bits that tastes delicious.
Cinnamon Bun: Covered with white frosting, this cinnamon bun offers an excellent breakfast choice. It has a somewhat denser texture than the donut shop variety of cinnamon roll, but its cinnamon taste is satisfyingly delicious without being over sweet. A great breakfast treat for a breakfast on the go.
LowFat Granola Cereal: A satisfying blend of rolled wheat, rolled oats, and slivers of almond that offers the delicious granola breakfast experience. This cereal has a wonderful flavor and it's absolutely delicious when served with a sliced banana or a diced peach. (A fruit portion is allowed with breakfast.) Nutrisystem Food Reviews Favorite!
Cranberry Orange Pastry: This breakfast pastry has more of a cake-like texture than a pastry, but it tastes very good. It contains flavorful chunks of cranberry to chew on and tiny bits of orange zest. Delicious and satisfying. It's great for taking breakfast with you to the office.
Blueberry Muffin: Good muffin flavor and texture, moist, and with wild blueberries to boot. Great with a coffee at home or convenient to take to the coffee shop when meeting friends.
Double Chocolate Muffin: Nutrisystem wasn't kidding when they called this a "double chocolate" muffin! This delicious muffin has a rich chocolatey taste and a moist texture, and it's almost the same size as a Tim Horton's® chocolate muffin. Perfect to carry with you on a night out. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
NutriFlakes Cereal: A great substitute for bran flakes containing a 40% bran content. Just the right flavor of bran cereal to make a satisfying breakfast.
Sweetened Os Cereal: Looks and tastes like whole grain oat Cheerios® sweetened with a bit of sugar, and it is real sugar, not a sweetener, so there's no aftertaste. This oat grain cereal makes a satisfying breakfast.
Crispy Rice Cereal: A tasty version of the familiar Rice Krispies®. There's even a little snap and crackle if you listen hard enough. The addition of a sliced banana adds your fruit portion and extra flavor.
Pancake Mix: This mix makes a delicious pancake that goes great with a sugar-free syrup or fat-free yogurt. But, I have to smile when the directions say to "Drop batter onto preheated pan to make 2-3 pancakes." The mix does make a nice saucer-sized pancake, but 2 to 3? They'd be the size of those made in a kid's play oven. ;-) However, I found that they did rise better when the amount of milk was added "exact" to directions.
Berries & Multigrain Flakes: Wholesome and crunchy, this combination of whole rolled oats and rice, almond slivers, and bits of freeze-dried strawberry and raspberry tasted delicious. A great way to begin the day, especially when you add fresh berries or slice a banana into the bowl. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Chocolate Chip Scone: Square shaped and pastry-like with chocolate chips and a delicious taste. A real breakfast treat with a morning coffee or cup of tea.
Whole Grain Os Cereal: Whole grain oat breakfast cereal lightly sweetened with sugar and with a delicious flavor. Perfect when served with a portion of your favorite fruit.
Cluster Crunch Cereal: Crunchy oat cereal with almond bits and honey. Delicious with milk and fruit. When you read its name, you know it has to taste good. Nutrisystem Food Reviews Favorite!
Apple Strudel Bar: Chewy rolled oats, apple, and other good things on a bed of white chocolate and lightly flavored with cinnamon. This little breakfast bar is filling and so good tasting.
Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal: Rolled oats flavored with brown and maple sugars. A deliciously nourishing hot porridge-style breakfast that's quick and easy to make in the microwave.
Cinnamon Bun Bar: While not a cinnamon bun, this breakfast bar made from rolled oats and soy protein reminds you of one. The delicious taste of cinnamon and the rich white chocolate icing make this a good choice for a quick breakfast on the go.
Nutrisystem Food Reviews Of LunchesBeans & Ham Soup: This is a delicious full bodied soup flavored with beans and chunks of cooked ham. So far, it's my favorite soup meal!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar: Like a chocolate bar and every bit as delicious with its crunchy Rice Krispies®-like, peanut butter taste. This is more like a rich snack item than a lunch meal, but it is satisfyingly filling, and it makes for a quick bite on a busy day. Carry one in your pocket when you're away from home at noon and hunger strikes. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Cheesy Homestyle Potatoes: They may be called "homestyle," but they're not anything like the cheesy mashed potatoes Mom used to make; they have the definite taste of instant mashed potatoes. These potatoes are cheesy and filling, though, and if you can get past the instant-potato taste, they make a passable side dish when served with cooked vegetables. Just make sure you stir the potato flakes exactly as the package describes after adding the boiling water, otherwise, the potatoes won't be creamy smooth. To be honest in my Nutrisystem food reviews, however, this is not a meal that I would order again.
Pasta Parmesan with Broccoli: Noodles and broccoli bits cooked just right in a delicious cheesy sauce that's flavored with real parmesan cheese. Quick to prepare and very tasty.
Turkey Hot Dog: This is a real hot dog with a real hot dog taste. A lunch treat when served inside a small, split whole wheat roll and garnished with a teaspoon each of mustard and relish. Perfect if you're a hot dog lover as I am, and it's something you can take to a backyard barbeque. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Double Chocolate Caramel Bar: A chocolate biscuit topped with a layer of gooey caramel filling and generously coated in chocolate. Crunchy and chewy, this is a great tasting chocolate bar and though it's not large, it is amazingly filling when eaten slow. Perfect for eating lunch on the run.
Cheese Tortellini: A delicious portion of tortellini pasta, tomato chunks, and a sauce of parmesan, ricotta, and romano cheeses. The portion looks small, but it's very filling and tasty. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Chicken Noodle Soup: This soup tastes like chicken noodle soup should taste. Chunks of chicken and soft noodles in a delicious tasting broth. Delicious and perfect for lunch if you're craving some comfort food.
Chicken Salad: This salad meal tastes surprisingly good for something you squeeze out of a foil-lined pouch. The serving is generous when served with a green salad on the side, and there's enough to fill a small whole wheat roll if you care to make a sandwich.
Creamy Tomato Soup: Rich and creamy and thick with the delicious taste of garden tomatoes. If you like tomato soup, you will love this one.
Fudge Graham Bar: A delicious chocolate bar with a graham center surrounded by a Rice Krispies®-like layer and coated in rich chocolate. Perfect for a lunch on the run.
Trail Mix Bar: A chewy mixture of peanuts, almonds, cashews, raisins, and pretzel bits on a bed of rich chocolate. Its taste reminded me of old time peanut brittle candy. This lunch on the go tastes as good as a chocolate bar.
Pasta With Beef: Macaroni pasta and ground beef in a spicy tomato sauce. A little spicier than I would prefer, but deliciously filling and satisfying.
Creamy Caesar Salad Dressing With Diced Chicken: Poured over a lettuce salad, this makes a delicious tasting meal. Generous chunks of chicken breast and a tasty Caesar salad dressing. Being a garlic lover, I only needed to add fresh garlic.
Red Beans & Rice With Sausage: Nicely spiced meal of rice, red kidney beans, and Cajun-style andouille sausage. Filling and delicious and goes perfectly with a side salad. Its instructions say to add 1 tablespoon of water before heating in the microwave; however, I found that adding 3 tablespoons made it less dry and better tasting.
Three Cheese Pasta With Chicken: Wheat pasta and small chunks of chicken meat combined with a creamy delicious sauce of cheddar, blue and parmesan cheeses. Wonderful flavor and taste. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite
Fettuccini Alfredo: Quality pasta with a blend of parmesan, romano, blue, and cheddar cheeses make this a tasty meal. Not as strong an alfredo taste as I had hoped for, yet it is delicious.
Chicken & Pasta In Cacciatore Sauce: If you like chicken cacciatore style dishes, you'll also like this tasty meal. The cacciatore sauce is delicious with the pasta and chunks of chicken breast.
Chocolate Raspberry Bar: Delicious chocolate coating over chewy rice crisps and an all-natural raspberry flavor. Makes a quick and tasty luncheon snack for times when you're in a hurry.
Nutrisystem Food Reviews Of DinnersMacaroni & Cheese: Not quite the quintessential Canadian Kraft Dinner® (KD), but this diet version comes close. This quick-to-prepare dinner meal satisfies the craving for creamy cheese and macaroni pasta. A perfect comfort food for serving with a lettuce salad and a whole wheat roll.
Oriental Steak with Green Peppers and Noodles: Delicious dinner with green peppers, noodles, mushroom slices, and generous-sized pieces of beef steak in a tasty gravy sauce.
Chicken with Dumplings: Tender chunks of chicken with small dumplings, bits of carrot, and all smothered in flavorful chicken gravy. The dumplings are denser than I would prefer, not fluffy, and not particularly tasty, but they do add bulk to the meal. The chicken gravy is delicious.
Mushroom Gravy with Rice & Salisbury Steak: This meal comes sealed in two compartments keeping the rice separate from the steak and gravy. The generous-sized salisbury steak is swimming in a thin, rich-tasting mushroom gravy. Overall, a deliciously filling meal. When the salisbury steak and gravy are poured over a slice of whole-wheat bread (your carbohydrate portion) with the rice, and a vegetable of your choice on the side, it makes a nice hot steak sandwich meal. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Wedged Potatoes with Sliced Beef Steak: Three or more good-sized potato wedges with small slices of beef covered in a beef gravy with corn niblets, bits of red pepper, and slices of mushroom. A comfort food if you enjoy a traditional dinner of meat and potatoes. Great as a hot beef sandwich meal when served over a split, whole wheat roll.
Stroganoff Sauce with Beef & Noodles: This meal is heavy on the sauce with chunks of real beef, noodles, and diced carrot. It's tasty and filling, but the sauce is tomato based when I was expecting a white stroganoff sauce from the photo on the box. Good tasting, but not one of my favorites.
Thick Crust Pizza: A 5-inch round pizza crust with a zesty tomato-based pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese to add before placing in the microwave or stove oven. The addition of sliced mushrooms, chopped peppers, and onion make this a very tasty meal. Perfect for when the rest of the family is enjoying a pizza night. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Flame Broiled Beef Patty: A real 7.0 ounce beef patty that truly tastes flame broiled and beefy. This makes an excellent hamburger when combined with lettuce, tomato, and onion, and served on a small, split whole wheat bun. Garnish with your choice of mustard, relish, or ketchup and enjoy. Perfect for taking to a summertime barbeque. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Penne Pasta & Chicken in Alfredo Sauce: Penne pasta and tender chunks of chicken in a cheesy alfredo sauce. Makes a very good meal.
Sloppy Joe Mix: Makes a generous portion with a Sloppy Joe consistency yet the "soy protein concentrate" gives it a very bean-like taste. A great vegetarian meal, but it's not to my liking.
BBQ Sauce With Pork Wrap: The pulled pork and spicy barbeque sauce are packaged separately from the tortilla. Delicious, with enough meat and sauce to make an additional sandwich with a whole wheat roll as the carbohydrate portion.
Buffalo Chicken Wrap: The chicken breast meat and Buffalo-style sauce are packaged separately from the tortilla. All in all, if you can get past the yellow-orange color of the wrap contents, it's good tasting and not over spicy, but I prefer the BBQ Sauce With Pork Wrap.
Italian Herb Flatbread Pizza: Similar to the Thick Crust Pizza, but with flat bread and Italian herbs. It comes with pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese. The addition of sliced mushrooms, chopped peppers, and onion make this a very tasty meal.
Chicken Tortilla Soup: Chili-like and spicy with ground chicken meat and beans. Delicious if you enjoy hot and spicy soups.
Chili With Beans: Great flavored chili that's spiced just right and made with nice-sized chunks of beef, tomato, and beans. A satisfying meal for a chilly evening in front of the fireplace.
Meatloaf & Tomato Sauce With Mashed Potatoes: Generous portions of meatloaf and real mashed potatoes with a non-spicy tomato sauce. The tomato sauce was a little too thick for my liking, and the meatloaf a little on the bland, but the meal was good overall.
Sweet & Sour Chicken With Noodles: Pineapple pieces, baby corn, water chestnuts, and tomato with Chinese egg noodles. Pineapple sweet yet with the flavor of tomatoes. Interesting. I'll need to try this one again before I offer an opinion.
Grilled Chicken Breast: This 3.5 ounce round of chicken is plump and delicious. Makes a great chicken burger with lettuce, non-fat Miracle Whip® salad dressing, a slice of tomato, and mustard of your choice inside a whole wheat roll. Have one handy to take along in case you get invited to a barbeque.
Homestyle Beef With Mashed Potatoes & Gravy: Tender cubes of prime beef and a generous serving of real mashed potatoes swimming in a tasty beef stock gravy. This makes a delicious comfort meal that's truly satisfying. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Oriental Steak With Green Peppers And Noodles: Prime beef and egg noodles with onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms covered in a tasty teriyaki sauce. The generous size of the tender beef slices surprised me. Delicious and filling.
Hearty Beef Stew: As the name describes it, a hearty stew of beef, potatoes, carrots, peas, celery, and tomatoes with that tinned-stew taste I tend to love. This is one that I would order again.
Penne Pasta & Chicken In Alfredo Sauce: Tasty blend of penne pasta and cubes of chicken breast in an alfredo sauce. It's generous with the chicken and delicious with the alfredo sauce.
Spaghetti With Meat Sauce: If you love spaghetti, you'll love this Nutrisystem meal. A generous helping of spaghetti with a delicious meat sauce of tomatoes and ground beef. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Orange Chicken Breast: An oriental-like dish of chicken breast with brown rice, carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions in a tasty natural orange flavored sauce.
Macaroni & Cheese With Beef: Creamy cheese and macaroni pasta with tender bits of ground beef. Easy to prepare and delicious to eat. Great for when you simply want to sit back and listen to your favorite music with a bowl of comfort food.
Swedish Style Meatballs With Pasta In Sauce: Tasty meatballs with onions and red bell peppers in a rich sauce flavored with wine. Makes a delicious and filling meal.
Cheese And Spinach Ravioli With Meat Sauce: The ravioli with its quality pasta and three-cheese (ricotta, mozzarella, romano) spinach filling is very tasty in a tomato, beef, and mushroom sauce. This Italian diet meal should satisfy any craving for ravioli. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Nutrisystem Food Reviews Of Desserts (Snacks)Cheese Puffs: A wonderful crunchy snack that's similar to commercial cheese puffs, with a zesty cheese flavor. The package contains a generous portion to nibble on while reading, watching a movie, or listening to music. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Zesty Herb Snack Mix: A nice, crunchy snack mix, but not as "zesty" tasting as I expected. Great to munch on, though. The package contains a generous serving to leave you well satisfied.
Chocolate Cake: A small, unfrosted piece of chocolate cake with a moist, pleasing texture and a delicious chocolatey taste. If you crave for chocolate cake, you'll love it as a snack. I only wish it had frosting. ;-)
Nacho Crisps: Crunchy, salty, and flavorful. These crisps offer the best substitute for potato chips, and the package contains a generous serving to leave your cravings well satisfied.
Chocolatey Nougat Bar with Peanuts & Caramel: Exactly like a delicious chocolate bar with right portions of peanuts and chewy caramel filling. An excellent treat to nibble on. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie: Moist with an excellent oatmeal flavor and texture. To me, the raisins almost taste a bit like dates. You'll love this dessert cookie.
White Chocolate Chunk Cookie: Chewy and delicious with chunks of decadent white chocolate. A great taste treat for the serious cookie lover.
Sour Cream & Onion Soy Chips: I love sour cream and onion potato chips, so I looked forward to trying these. Alas, these soy chips are somewhat bland and flavorless, and while they provide a satisfying crunch, they fall short of sour cream and onion expectations.
Chocolate Rainbow Delights: Similar to Smarties® with a colorful candy coating, but the chocolate-like interiors have more of a cocoa-like flavor. These Rainbow Delights make a delicious snack, and the package contains a generous serving to nibble on.
Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookies: A generous sized package of crisp little cookies filled with chewy walnut pieces and chocolate chips. A great tasting cookie for the cookie lover to munch on.
Buffalo Wing Pretzels: Crunchy pretzels with a definitely spicy but not-too-hot coating. Great to munch on while watching television.
Thin Mint Crisp Bar: Crispy and crunchy with a minty flavor and covered in chocolate. This Nutrisystem snack is little bit larger than the other chocolate bars offered, and it's delicious and satisfying for an evening snack.
Peppermint Cookie Patty: I confess that I had put off trying this snack as its 1.38-ounce size made it seem smaller than the bars, but once you bite through the rich chocolate with its crunchy little cookie pieces and into the delicious peppermint flavored center, you're hooked. I loved this snack and it's amazingly satisfying. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
Almond Biscotti: This biscotto is the perfect complement to a relaxing evening coffee or frothy cappuccino. An Italian biscuit with a delicious almond flavor and with whole almonds to crunch on.
Fudge Brownie: Moist and chocolatey, exactly what you would expect a fudge brownie to be. Delicious tasting, it makes a nice indulgent dessert.
BBQ Soy Chips: Great tasting snack item with a satisfying potato chip-like crunch and mild barbeque flavor. Perfect for munching on.
Coconut Almond Bar: Coconut is the first ingredient in this delicious chocolate bar so if you love coconut and chocolate you're sure to enjoy it. Moist and chewy and delicious!
Carrot Cake: Moist, great tasting carrot cake topped with vanilla icing. If only the icing were thicker, but it is a diet after all. ;-)
Honey Mustard Pretzel Sticks: Generous size package of crunchy little pretzels, all coated with the delicious flavor of honey mustard. A great snack item to munch on while reading a magazine.
White Cheddar Soy Chips: This snack reminds me of Quaker® Rice Cakes with a very mild cheddar cheese flavor. Satisfies the crunch craving.
Strawberry Shortcake Bar: A chewy dessert bar with a crispy wafer-like center and the delicious taste of strawberry puree all coated with a yogurt icing. Yummy!
NutriChocolates: A generous-size package of creamy milk chocolate buds that's perfect for munching on when that craving for anything chocolate hits. Nutrisystem Food Reviews favorite!
