Date Nut Candy

by Marty Shultz
(Milam, Texas)

My aunt who raised me from the time I was 3 years old would make a special candy for us kids. All I know is she called it Date Nut Candy. We would stand by the stove while she made it so we could wait for the pot to lick the spoon and pick out the leftover candy in the pan.

She would cook it until it was hot and gooey then pour it on a buttered cookie sheet and work it with a wooden spoon to cool it then wrap it in wax paper to cool. After a couple of days she would slice it up, and everyone would enjoy it.

My aunt said that it was a candy recipe that she got from her mother or that her mother got from her mother so I am not sure how old it is. My aunt was born and raised in Oklahoma and passed away in 1963 and never gave the recipe to anyone. I was born in Oklahoma as well, but now I live in Texas.

So if anyone can find this old candy, I would really be very happy. Any help would be nice.

Thanks to all with peace and prayers.
