A country store was never far from where Grandma lived. Small general stores were often found in villages and at rural crossroads, and they offered a wide assortment of quality merchandise crammed into a small amount of shelf space.

Aside from the basic food items like salt, flour, and molasses, these village shops offered many household goods such as cake pans, pots, sewing material, kitchen appliances, oil lamps, ice cream makers, and quality gift items.

What made the old-time general store special, though, was its proprietor. He or she was a respected member of the community and a trusted family friend. You knew without doubt that each item in the store was handpicked for its quality and always guaranteed.

During the last half of the twentieth century, these small shops were mostly displaced by specialized retail outlets and large department stores that offered a greater selection of merchandise yet less personal service. Sadly, it was the end of an era, until now...
