Welcome

Hi Everybody!

We are experiencing glorious spring weather here in the Kawarthas with summer-like temperatures of nearly 30°C. Leaves are on most of the trees now, and the old crabapple trees on our front lawn are already in bloom. Outdoor barbecue time is here!

The Homemade Dessert Recipes website is in the midst of a major cosmetic makeover, so please have patience. When the makeover is complete, there will not only be lots more pages of old-time dessert recipes, but they should be easier to read and locate. If you have not visited the site lately, please stop by and have a look.

Enjoy reading this month's ezine, and thanks for visiting my website.

Warm regards,

Don

Old Fashioned Recipe

Leopard Cake Recipe

This old-fashioned recipe is taken from an unidentified newspaper clipping of Grandma's, circa 1910.

White Part: Whites of five eggs, half teacup of butter, two cups white sugar, two cups flour, one cup sweet milk, two teaspoonfuls baking powder, lemon flavoring.

Gold Part: Yolks of five eggs, half cup butter, one cup sweet milk, two teaspoonfuls baking powder, flavor as you do light part.

Dark Part: One cup brown sugar, quarter cup butter, half cup sweet milk, half cup molasses, two cups flour, one egg, half teaspoonful soda, all kinds of spices to taste.

Put into a greased pan by the spoonful. The different colors will give it a spotted-leopard-like effect when baked. --Kindness of J.M.B.
