Easy Dessert Recipes Ezine -- 007 October 08, 2005 |
Edited Archival VersionWelcomeHi Everybody!Well, the kids are all back in school and the days are starting to grow shorter. Fall has arrived, and we have already had a touch of frost on the pumpkins. Where did summer go? October 10th is Thanksgiving Day here in Canada, so we are looking forward to a beautiful long weekend. I am already dreaming about roast turkey and dressing, and a big slice of warm, fresh-from-the-oven pumpkin pie smothered in thick whipped cream. Ummm. Unfortunately, if you happen to live in the U.S., you will have to wait until next month to enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner. But don't worry, I'll be thinking of you. ;-) Enjoy reading this newsletter and thank you for supporting my website. Sincerely, Don P.S. Old-Fashioned RecipeRecipe For Old-Time Orange DropsThis old-fashioned recipe is taken from "The White House Cook Book" by Hugo Ziemann, Steward of the White House, and Mrs. F. L. Gillette, a celebrated 19th-century cookbook author, published by The Saalfield Publishing Company, New York, in 1913.Grate the rind of one orange and squeeze the juice, taking care to reject the seeds; add to this a pinch of tartaric acid; then stir in confectioner's sugar until it is stiff enough to form into balls the size of a small marble. This is delicious candy. The same process for lemon drops, using lemons in place of orange. Color a feint yellow.
