Welcome

Hi Everyone,

Well, Spring has finally arrived here in Peterborough, and the grass will soon need cutting. It is almost warm enough outside to barbecue and go on picnics.

For me, picnics bring back many fond memories of good times spent with family and friends. Why not make time this spring for an old-time picnic? Grandma's old-fashioned recipes are perfect for picnics.

Enjoy this month's newsletter and thank you for visiting my website.

Sincerely,

Don

Website Updates

New International Dessert Recipes

April was a busy month for me; I am working on a new eBook. However, I found the time to add a page of French Cake Recipes to my website. Good French cake recipes are prized by those who appreciate rich tasting, spectacular desserts, and I think you will love the delicious selection of old-fashioned French cream cakes and loaf cakes, and there is even a vintage recipe for the renowned Gateau Saint Honore. Try one of these vintage French cake recipes.

I also added a page of Dutch Dessert Recipes. The Dutch people are well known for their rich, good-tasting desserts, and these wholesome treats are no exception. Whether it is the Dutch apple pudding, the Dutch flummery, or the Dutch cookies (koekje) and cracknels, you will enjoy eating these old-fashioned treats. Try one of the Dutch dessert recipes from Grandma's recipe collection today.

Both new pages are located in the International Dessert Recipes section of my website.

New Dessert Recipes Poll

A new feature on my website is the Dessert Recipes Poll. By voting in the Dessert Recipes Poll, you will discover instantly which dessert is the most popular with my site visitors. You will also have a chance to let me know what kinds of old-fashioned dessert recipes and content you would like to see featured on my website.

Voting is fun, easy and anonymous. So please take a moment and vote. I would really appreciate your input. It will help me to know what kind of desserts you like so I can provide more of the easy dessert recipes you want.

Old-Fashioned Recipe

Buffalo Cake Recipe

This old-fashioned cake recipe is taken from the book "Dr. Chase's Third, Last and Complete Receipt Book, Memorial Edition" by Dr. Alvin Wood Chase, M.D., published by F. B. Dickerson Company, Detroit and Windsor, in 1891.

Sugar, 1 cup; butter, melted, 1 tablespoonful; 1 egg, beaten to a froth; soda, 1 teaspoonful, dissolved in sweet milk, 2/3 cup; cream of tartar, 2 teaspoonfuls; flour to make so it will pour on tins. Bake like jelly cake, and put custard or jelly between.

Remarks. -- Mrs. J. A. Heister of Denver, Col., says: "It is cheap and good enough for anyone." And I cannot account for the name, unless it is because the Denver people take it with them when they go out to hunt the buffalo.
